+353 (0) 61 331 549Opened in 1993 by the then Taoiseach Albert Reynolds and U.S. Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith, University Concert Hall was the first purpose-built concert hall in Ireland. It is a premier 1,038-seat multi-purpose auditorium located on the parkland campus of the University of Limerick. The hall is uniquely designed with variable acoustics, allowing the sound to be tailored for everything from intimate acoustic recitals and stand-up comedy to grand opera and full symphony orchestras. It is also home to Ireland's only working Compton organ, a rare and historic instrument that adds to the venue's distinctive character.
Accessibility
UCH is a fully accessible venue with modern facilities:
Physical Access: The building is wheelchair accessible from both the Foundation Car Park and the UL Plaza entrances. There are two elevators connecting the lower ground entrance to the main atrium.
Seating: There are 4 dedicated wheelchair and companion spaces (located in Row O and Row Z). These must be booked directly through the Box Office (+353 61 331549) as they are not available online.
Hearing Support: A Sennheiser induction loop system is in operation throughout the auditorium. Patrons with hearing aids should switch them to "Infra-Red Mode."
Assistance: Staff are available to assist with walking aids (which are stored safely during the show and returned to the door afterward). The venue also occasionally hosts sensory-friendly performances.
Car Parking
UCH provides convenient parking options within the University of Limerick campus:
Main Parking: The Foundation Car Park is the primary parking area located directly in front of the venue. While it is a paid car park during business hours, it is free for UCH patrons attending evening performances (barriers are raised from 9:30 pm for shows starting at 8:00 pm).
Overflow Parking: There are two additional free overflow car parks located within a 1-minute and 5-minute walk from the venue.
Accessible Parking: There are 6 designated disabled parking spaces in the main Foundation car park and a further 2 in the nearest overflow car park (No. 4).
Café & Bar
The venue offers several on-site hospitality options for guests:
Café Allegro: Located within the Foundation Building, this café serves salads, soups, coffee, and confectionery. It is a convenient spot for light refreshments before a performance.
Atrium Bar: The spacious atrium features full bar facilities, which are open before shows and during intervals for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Campus Dining: As UCH is part of the university campus, there are numerous other dining options within a short walk, such as The Terrace Bar & Restaurant and The Stables Club, which offer more substantial meal options.
