It is an award-winning architectural landmark tucked away behind an unassuming street-front in Wexford town. The building features two distinct performance spaces: the O’Reilly Theatre (a magnificent 771-seat tiered auditorium lined in North American walnut) and the more intimate Jerome Hynes Theatre (a 176-seat "black box" space). Renowned for its world-class acoustics, it is the home of the internationally famous Wexford Festival Opera and hosts a year-round programme of opera, music, comedy, and theatre.
Accessibility
The National Opera House is a modern, fully accessible building:
Physical Access: The venue operates over four levels, all of which are serviced by a public lift.
Wheelchair Seating: There are up to 17 dedicated wheelchair spaces available across the O'Reilly Theatre and the Jerome Hynes Theatre. It is recommended to book these directly through the Box Office (+353 53 912 2144).
Hearing Support: The venue uses the Sennheiser Mobile Connect system. This is an app-based assistive listening system that allows users to stream audio directly to their smartphones and use their own headphones or Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids.
Facilities: Fully accessible toilets are located on Ground Floor (Level 0), Level 1, and Level 2.
Assistance Animals: Guide dogs and assistance animals are welcome.
Car Parking
The National Opera House is located on a residential street in the heart of Wexford town, and while it does not have its own private parking lot, there are several nearby options:
Nearby Car Parks: The most convenient options are the High Street Car Park (adjacent to the theatre, though spaces are limited), Rowe Street Church Car Park (2-minute walk), and the Stonebridge Car Park (5-minute walk).
Set Down: There is a dedicated set-down area directly outside the theatre on High Street for passengers with limited mobility.
On-Street Parking: Limited "Pay-and-Display" on-street parking is available on surrounding streets.
Café & Bar
The venue offers extensive hospitality facilities:
La Vista Café & Restaurant: Located on the third floor, this café offers panoramic views of Wexford town and the harbour. It is open for breakfast and lunch (typically Tuesday–Saturday) and serves a popular Pre-Opera Supper (three-course meal) on performance evenings.
Bars: There are four bars located throughout the building, including the Founders Bar and the Jerome Hynes Bar, which are open before shows and during intervals.
Hospitality Spaces: Several rooms, such as the Founders Room and the Top Floor Restaurant, are available for private dining, receptions, and corporate events.
