Cork Opera House is Southern Ireland's premier performing arts venue. Originally built in 1855 and rebuilt twice (most recently in 1965 and 1993), it is a landmark of Cork’s cultural identity. It features a magnificent 1,000-seat main auditorium and one of the largest stages in the country, capable of handling massive scenic changes for large-scale productions. The venue hosts a world-class annual programme including the famous Cork Jazz Festival events, prestigious operas, the city's beloved Christmas Panto, and major touring musical theatre and comedy acts. Its striking modern glass-fronted foyer offers beautiful views over the River Lee and the historic Crawford Art Gallery.

Accessibility

Cork Opera House is fully accessible for patrons with restricted movement: Physical Access: Step-free access is available via a ramp at the main entrance. A wheelchair lift on the ground floor provides easy access to the auditorium, and a main elevator on the left side of the entrance services all levels of the building. Seating: There are up to 5 dedicated wheelchair and companion spaces in prime locations within the auditorium. These must be booked directly through the Box Office (+353 21 427 0022). Hearing Support: An induction loop system is in operation throughout the auditorium. Patrons using hearing aids should switch them to the "T" setting. Facilities: Accessible toilets are located on the first and top floors. Assistance Animals: Guide dogs and assistance animals are welcome.

Car Parking

While Cork Opera House does not have its own private car park, it is well-served by nearby facilities: Q-Park Carroll’s Quay: This is the primary recommended parking option, located just a 2-minute walk from the venue. Patrons can often avail of a 25% discount by booking their parking online in advance (check your booking confirmation for a discount code). Paul Street Car Park: Located directly behind the venue, this is another convenient option with evening flat rates usually available after 6:30 pm. Accessible Parking: Cork City Council provides designated accessible parking on Emmett Place, right alongside the Crawford Art Gallery and the theatre entrance.

Café & Bar

The Opera House offers several internal hospitality options: The Foyer Bar: Located on the 2nd floor, offering a wide range of beverages and a comfortable space to gather before a show or during intervals. Blue Angel Bar: A secondary bar and event space often used for intimate performances or pre-show drinks. On-site Café: The ground floor foyer area typically features a café offering coffee, light snacks, and pastries. Nearby Dining: Being in the city centre (Emmett Place), the venue is within steps of top restaurants such as Market Lane, Scoozi, and The Cornstore, making it an ideal location for pre-theatre dinner.
