The theatre hosts a vibrant year-round programme including professional and amateur drama, traditional Irish music, jazz, opera, dance, and a popular annual pantomime. It serves as a vital community hub, fostering local talent through creative workshops and collaborations while also acting as a key stop for major national and international touring productions.

Accessibility

The Hawks Well Theatre is committed to being an inclusive venue and has undergone renovations to improve its facilities:

  • Physical Access: The building is fully accessible. Step-free access to the main auditorium is available via the side of the building.

  • Seating: The theatre has increased its capacity for wheelchair users. Usually, up to 6 wheelchair spaces can be accommodated in the front row, which is at ground level. These spaces should be booked through the Box Office (+353 71 916 1518).

  • Facilities: The theatre features accessible toilet facilities.

  • Assistance: Staff are available to assist patrons, and the venue offers early entry to the auditorium for those who require extra time to get settled.

Car Parking

The theatre has limited on-site parking, but there are several convenient options nearby:

  • Cathedral Car Park: This is the closest major car park to the theatre (approximately 80 meters away). It is located on Temple Street and typically requires a payment (around €3) when leaving.

  • On-Street Parking: There is limited metered on-street parking available directly in front of the theatre on Temple Street and on the Lungy (the street beside the stage-door entrance). Metered hours are generally 8:30 am to 6:30 pm.

  • Accessible Parking: Dedicated parking for disabled patrons is located at the side of the building, providing direct access to the theatre entrance.

Café & Bar

  • Theatre Bar: The Hawks Well has a fully licensed bar and an elegantly designed foyer. The bar opens at 7:30 pm on performance nights and remains open during the interval and for 30 minutes after the show.

  • Interval Drinks: Patrons are encouraged to order interval drinks in advance at the bar to avoid queues.

  • Nearby Dining: As the theatre is located in the heart of Sligo town, it is within short walking distance of numerous local restaurants and cafés, such as those in the John Street and O’Connell Street areas.
