About this production
An evocative new contemporary work from Youth Ballet West. 'Whispers' explores the power of gossip and community, featuring the YBW company and a special appearance by the Junior Associates.
Youth Ballet West presents 'Whispers', a compelling new contemporary dance work exploring the evolution of communication and the social power of gossip.
From the first whisper to the formation of language, 'Whispers' delves into how verbal connection keeps us tethered to one another. The piece examines how gossip helps form complex social structures, creates a sense of belonging, and helps us seek out our community—while asking the poignant question: We want to be ‘in’ with the ‘in crowd’… but at what cost?
Devised and choreographed by Ruaidhrí Maguire and Judith Sibley, this production features an innovative storyboard developed in collaboration with Transition Year students from Presentation College, Athenry. The evening will also feature a special short performance by the YBW Junior Associates, showcasing the rising talent of the company’s younger division. Supported by the Arts Council and local councils, 'Whispers' is a must-see for those interested in the cutting edge of youth contemporary ballet in Ireland.
