About Killester School of Ballet and Modern Dance
Killester School of Ballet and Modern Dance is a long-established centre for classical excellence and contemporary movement in Dublin. A registered Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) school, we offer a comprehensive training pathway that ranges from creative preschool movement to professional Vocational and Teacher Training levels. Our curriculum is designed to foster technical mastery, musicality, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts in a supportive, non-pressurized environment.
Early Years & Graded Ballet (Ages 3.5+)
Following the RAD "Dance to Your Own Tune" curriculum, our youngest students begin their journey at age 3.5 to 5. These classes focus on developing core stability, motor control, and creativity. As students progress, they move into the RAD Graded Syllabus (up to Grade 8), where they gain technical proficiency and a deep understanding of classical repertoire and character dance. While examinations are offered as a rewarding goal, the emphasis remains on enjoyment and the physical/social benefits of dance.
Contemporary Dance (Grade 4+ / Age 14+)
Introduced in 2010, our Contemporary program is rooted in the techniques of Graham, Cunningham, and Laban. This genre is vital for students pursuing third-level dance education in Ireland and abroad.
Existing Students: Available from Grade 4 upward.
New Students: Welcome from age 14+, following a 2–3 class trial assessment. These classes focus on core stability, floor work, and individual creativity, acting as a perfect technical complement to classical ballet.
Vocational Path & RAD Teacher Training (CBTS)
For students considering a professional career, we offer a dedicated Vocational Graded track. These intensive examinations prepare dancers for the rigours of the professional industry. Uniquely, Killester School of Ballet also provides mentorship and support for advanced students undertaking the CBTS (Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies) - the official teacher-training course of the Royal Academy of Dance.
Performance & Appreciation
Our Biennial School Show ensures every student has the opportunity to perform on a professional stage. Beyond the studio, our dancers develop an appreciation for the Great Ballets (Swan Lake, The Nutcracker) and diverse national dance styles, ensuring a well-rounded artistic education.
